The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
