Messengers! Partake of the things that are clean, and act righteously. I know well all that you do. 51 And verily, this community of yours is one single community, since I am the Sustainer of you all: remain, then, conscious of Me! 52 But people later cut up their religion into bits, each group rejoicing in what they have. 53 But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time. 54 What, do they think that We succour them with of wealth and children, 55 We provide them with the means of competing with each other in virtuous deeds, but they do not realize this. 56 Verily! Those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; 57 Who believe in their Lord's revelations, 58 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord, 59 And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 We charge not any soul save to its capacity, and with Us is a Book speaking truth, and they shall not be wronged. 62 But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides disbelief which they are doing, 63 So that when We seize the affluent among them with affliction, they will begin to implore for help. 64 Supplicate not this day! Assuredly ye will not be helped by Us. 65 My communications were indeed recited to you, but you used to turn back on your heels, 66 in arrogance, as if you were abandoning a story-teller. 67 Should they not think upon the saying? Or, did anything come upon them that had not come upon their ancient forefathers? 68 Or, is it that they recognised not their apostle, and so of him they become deniers? 69 Do they say he is mad! No, he came to them with the truth, but most of them hate the truth. 70 And were the truth to follow their desires there would have been corrupted the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is therein. Aye! We have come to them with their admonition; so it is from their admonition that they turn away. 71 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers. 72 And verily thou! thou callest them unto a Path straight. 73 But those who believe not in the Hereafter turn away from the straight path. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro. 75 And assuredly We took hold of them with the torment, yet they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they entreat. 76 when We opened on them a gate of severe punishment, they utterly despaired. 77
