The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
