The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 who guard their privates 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
