The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
