The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
