The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ They ask thee (O Muhammad) of the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and the messenger, so keep your duty to Allah, and adjust the matter of your difference, and obey Allah and His messenger, if ye are (true) believers. 1 They only are the (true) believers whose hearts feel fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His revelations are recited unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord; 2 Those who pray steadfastly, and spend of that which We have provided them, 3 Such people are indeed true believers. They have high ranks with their Lord, and forgiveness for their sins and an honourable sustenance. 4 This is like what time thy Lord had caused thee to go forth from thy house for a right cause, while a party among the believers were averse. 5 They disputed with you about the truth after that had become evident, as if they were being driven to death with their eyes wide open. 6 When God promised to grant you (believers) victory over either one of the two groups, you wished to have control over the unarmed one. God decided to prove (to you) the truth of His promises and to destroy the unbelievers 7 That He may manifest the truth of what was true and show the falsehood of what was false, though the guilty disliked. 8 And when you (Prophet Muhammad) prayed to your Lord for help, He answered: 'I am sending to your aid a thousand angels in succession' 9 God has sent this glad news to comfort your hearts. Victory is in the hands of God alone. God is Majestic and All-wise. 10
