He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
