Nay, and by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 it is a warning to man, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 who will be in Paradise 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
