The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
