He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
