He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
