The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 Those who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 The sinners laughed at the believers 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
