Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
