Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
