Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
