The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 For a mighty day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
