Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 therein every wise bidding 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
