A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad. 1 This is a Book sent down toward thee, so let there be no straitness in thy breast therefor, that thou mayest warn thereby! and this is an admonition unto the believers. 2 Follow that which is sent down toward you from your Lord, and follow not any patrons beside Him; yet little ye are admonished. 3 How many a township have We destroyed! As a raid by night, or while they slept at noon, Our terror came unto them. 4 and when Our scourge fell upon them, their only cry was, "We were indeed wrongdoers!" 5 So We shall call to account those to whom Messengers were sent, and We shall call to account the Messengers (to see how dutifully they conveyed the Message, and how people responded to it). 6 We will tell them with absolute certainty (what they had done) for We had never been absent from them (during their lifetime). 7 And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance - it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state; 8 And as for those whose scale is light: those are they who lose their souls because they used to wrong Our revelations. 9 We have established you in the earth and there appointed for you livelihood; little thanks you show. 10
