۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
