Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the luminious Book. 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
