And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
