And they ask you about Zulqarnain. Say: I will recite to you an account of him. 83 We had given him great power in the land and all kinds of resources. 84 He travelled on a certain road; 85 to the West where he found the sun setting into a warm source (spring) of water and a people living near by. We asked him, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, you may punish them or treat them with kindness?" 86 He said: "I shall punish whosoever is wicked. He will then be sent back to his Lord who will inflict on him a terrible punishment. 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Thereafter he followed a way. 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. 90 So (it was)! And We knew all about him (Dhul-Qarnain). 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 until he came between two mountains. He found beside them a people who could scarcely understand a word [of his language]. 93 'ThulKarnain' they said, 'Look, Gog and Magog are corrupting the earth. Build for us a barrier between us and them, and we will pay you a tribute' 94 He said, "What My Lord has given me is better [than any tribute]. Help me with a force of labourers and I will erect a barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron' After he had leveled between the two cliffs, he said: 'Blow' And when he made it a fire, he said: 'Bring me molten copper so that I may pour over it' 96 Therefore Yajuj and Majuj were neither able to surmount it, nor could they pierce it. 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ And We shall leave them on that day surging one against other and the trumpet shall be blown, and then We shall assemble them together. 99 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 who have turned a blind eye to My reminder and a deaf ear to My warning. 101
