The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
