The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
