The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
