The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
