The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 except those that pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
