The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
