The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
