The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He verily will be content. 21
