He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
