The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And dense gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
