He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
