Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
