Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
