The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
