The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
