The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he approached and descended 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
