۞ It is He Who created you from a single soul, and from him made its mate for him to gain comfort with her; so when the male covered her, she was burdened lightly in her womb, and she therefore moved easily carrying it; and when she felt the burden heavy, they both cried to their Lord Allah, “Indeed You may give to us a child as You will, so we will surely be thankful.” 189 And yet, as soon as He has granted them sound [offspring,] they begin to ascribe to other powers beside Him a share in bringing about what He has granted them! Sublimely exalted, however, is God - above anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 190 Attribute they as partners to Allah those who created naught, but are themselves created, 191 No aid can they give them, nor can they aid themselves! 192 and, if you pray to them for guidance, do not respond to you? As far as you are concerned, it is all one whether you invoke them or keep silent. 193 Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Do they (the idols) have feet to walk, hands to hold things, eyes to see, and ears to hear? (Muhammad), tell them (the pagans) to call on their idols for help and to plan against Me without delay. 195 My guardian is Allah Who has revealed the Book, and it is He Who protects the righteous. 196 And those whom ye call upon besides Him cannot succour you nor themselves they can succour. 197 And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see. 198 Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them). 199 If Satan will try to seduce you, seek refuge from God. God is All-hearing and All-knowing. 200 When a satanic thought starts to bother the pious ones, they understand and see the light 201 But (as for) their brothers (the devils) they (i.e. the devils) plunge them deeper into error, and they never stop short. 202 If you, (Muhammad), do not show them a miracle, they will keep on insisting that you must show them one. Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (Quran) contains wisdom for you from your Lord. It contains guidance and mercy for those who have faith. 203 When the Koran is recited, listen to it in silence in order that Allah has mercy upon you. 204 And remember your Lord within yourself humbly and fearing and in a voice not loud in the morning and the evening and be not of the heedless ones. 205 Lo! those who are with thy Lord are not too proud to do Him service, but they praise Him and prostrate before Him. ۩ 206
