The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
