He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
