The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
