Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
