A numerous company from among the first, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
