And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
