The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
