NOW, VERILY, it is We who have created man, and We know what his innermost self whispers within him: for We are closer to him than his neck-vein. 16 [And so,] whenever the two demands [of his nature] come face to face, contending from the right and from the left, 17 Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). 18 And the stupor of death will come in truth; that is what you were trying to escape. 19 The trumpet will be sounded. This is the Day [you were] warned of. 20 And every soul shall come, and with it a driver and a witness. 21 (It will be said to the sinners): "Indeed you were heedless of this, now We have removed your covering, and sharp is your sight this Day!" 22 And his accompanying angel said, “This is the record of your deeds, available with me.” 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 "Who forbade what was good, transgressed all bounds, cast doubts and suspicions; 25 "Who set up another ilah (god) with Allah, then (both of you) cast him in the severe torment." 26 ۞ His Companion will say: "Our Lord! I did not make him transgress, but he was (himself) far astray." 27 He shall say, 'Dispute not before Me! For I sent you beforehand -- the threat. 28 The Word will not be changed in My presence, nor am I an oppressor at all unto My bondmen. 29
