And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah]. 94 Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease." So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive. 95 And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). 96 Did the people of the towns feel secure against the coming of Our wrath by night while they were asleep? 97 Or, did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment in the forenoon while they play? 98 Then did they feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people. 99
