a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten - 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
