And when the sent angels came to the house of Lut. 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 So set out with your family in a watch of the night, and keep yourself behind them, and no one of you may turn around, and keep going ahead as you have been commanded." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said; Have we not forbidden you from (entertaining) anyone? 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
